cob or formal rush

by:

So If I were to rush I would be a non-traditional PNM ( 1L Law student). I really want to try joining a sorority just because I never had the time during undergrad.. I don't know if I should go through formal rush or wait til spring to try COB... It's difficult to think about doing simply because I'm not a 17-21 year old undergrad girl so I'm not sure how successful this would be.. suggestions or insight??

Just trying to be honest, I rushed as an older PNM and got the sorority I wanted, but it's difficult when you're older and at your age, it's almost going to be impossible to get a bid. We only have a certain number of spots per pledge class, and it has to work in a way that we see the PNM fit with all of the girls. We take unique, but at your age I'm just saying for myself it was too difficult to fit in. Older pledge classes already have their niche, and the pledge class you'd be in would be a lot younger than you and at a different stage. I think your best option would be to make friends in sororities and have the option of going to any house you want without the pressure of getting a bid. Good luck though either way.

A lot of sororities also have rules that you have to be an undergraduate student, so your choices would be very limited. I would look for grad student organizations to join instead - I feel like you'd be more successful there. Good luck!

I'm sorry, but I don't think you should go throigh recruitment. Are you going to have time to be in a sorority as a first year Law student? More than likely not. Joining a sorority is a huge time commitment and it's hard enough as freshman, I couldn't even imagine doing it during law school. Like a poster above said, most sororities require you to be an undergraduate to be a member. I know my sorority definitely does and I am sure most others do as well, so you would be immediately dropped if you are even allowed to register. Also, you have to think about how much in common are you really going to have with all of these girls. I find it strange that a 22-23 year old would want to just start having out with 18-19 year olds, who are going to be more concerned with drinking and parties than school. I joined my sorority as a junior when I had just turned 20 and I still felt like I didnt fit in with a lot of the girls in my pledge class because I was older. Like I said, I'm not trying to be mean, I am just being honest. I would hate to see you go through recruitment and be devestated if you get completely dropped.I think you need to reconsider your decision for the sake of your schoolwork and your career, but if you are that insistent upon joining a sorority, contact Greek Affairs. And by chance if you do go through recruitment, I would delete this thread because it reveals a lot of information about you.

Thanks for the info... I would be a 2L if I did it in the time frame I was thinking.. I talked with some of my fellow 1L friends and they think it's a no go simply because of the time commitment. This first year has been rough to say the least and though it'll be a bit easier as a 2L my friends definitely are against it because they feel it's not worth the trouble and stress... So yeah this seems like a no go but thanks for all the insight
