some of this information is so wrong

I'm convinced that some of the people giving tips on how to get into your perfect sorority aren't greek themselves. If you want accurate information from the school then look at UAPANHELLIENIC website under the FAQ section. You don't need a 3.5 gpa to rush-- all you need is a 3.0.. even if you have a 2.9 or 2.8 your rush isn't necessarily over. It might be harder for you to get a bid at some of the more popular houses but you should still be fine if you actually follow everything you're supposed to do at rush and have a nice personality and are in good physical shape. Honestly, if you're not getting a bid then you probably did it to yourself by just choosing based on these rankings or who had the nicest house. Go in and be honest to yourself. If the girls at your former top choice aren't as friendly to you as they could be, then think about it. If you're not getting dropped, that doesn't mean you're getting picked either. Be careful.
