Formal is in the fall, informal is in the spring

Formal recruitment is in the fall and a much more intensive lengthy experience. You visit every NPC member chapter and it is spread out over 2 weeks. The days are themed: Intro Day, House Tours, Philanthropy and Preference. Every round you pick less and less chapters to return to and you pick between two on Preference night. Bid Day is the next day and pledge classes are usually around 50 girls. Formal is a time commitment, no doubt, but it gives you the opportunity to see ALL of the chapters and find the best fit for you.

Informal recruitment is in the spring and houses choose if they want to participate or not. Usually somewhere between 3 and 5 NPC members participate and all of the NPC affiliate chapters (LDPhi, ASK, PBX). This means if you chapter membership is low because of drops from Fall recruitment you have the option to supplement your membership before Fall recruitment. Chapters host 2-5 events that are much more informal and one-on-one while doing an activity based (crafting, bowling, etc.) You meet less members and the houses facilitate their own recruitment meaning you only participate in recruitment at the houses you choose. If you are familiar with chapters that you like or have friends in them, this may be the way to go for you. Pledge class sizes can range anywhere from 3 to 30, it all depends on what the house wants.
